Headaches

We have all at one time or another suffered from headaches.  Quite often muscular tension is the cause of the issue.

Poor posture can lead to a tightening of the muscles in the back of the neck creating headaches.  The muscular tension of the suboccipital muscles causes pain to refer to the front of the head around the eyebrows.

Some headaches, such as migraines, can be a caused by a combination of muscular dysfunction in the neck alongside metabolic stress.  In these cases treatment may include dietary advice and supplementation.

Many headaches, however, are caused primarily by metabolic issues or illness.  To determine the nature of the headaches a detailed consultation involving taking your blood pressure and temperature may be performed.

  • Cervicogenic Headaches (caused by myofascial dysfunction of the neck).

  • Migraines.

  • Poor core stability.  (In the picture to the right you can see a good example of poor posture created by poor core stability.  The lack of strength in the lower back leads to slumping in the seat which then leads to jutting the chin forwards, creating tension in the neck.)

  • Chest breathing.

  • Spinal Manipulative Therapy in the neck for improved joint function.

  • Cranial sutural release.
